Health & Wellbeing

Youth advocacy for SRHR, mental health, and maternal wellbeing - because healthy youth build healthy communities.

The Challenge

In Africa, adolescent girls and young women face compounding barriers to health: limited menstrual health education, stigma, inadequate access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) information, and invisible mental health burdens. These are not peripheral issues - they directly determine whether a young person can attend school, participate in civic life, and lead in their community. The climate crisis amplifies all of them.

Our Approach

AYA integrates health into every dimension of its work. RISE delivers menstrual health education and dignity kits in partnership with global menstrual hygiene entities. And our broader health work is intentionally linked to climate justice; because period dignity and environmental resilience are, for many young Ghanaians, the same struggle.

Current Initiatives

RISE integrates AYA’s health, climate, and inclusion work into one coherent intervention.

Goal

To improve the health, leadership capacity, and environmental agency of young people across Africa.

  • Expand menstrual health education and reusable dignity kits to adolescent girls through tailored interventions
  • Amplify youth voices on climate, gender, and health
  • #GreenRISE digital campaign linking climate change impacts to girls’ health and menstrual equity
